Explore San Luis Obispo, California

San Luis Obispo is a city in the Central Coast region of California, approximately midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Los Angeles is 200 miles south of SLO and San Francisco is 230 miles north of SLO. It is often referred to by its initials "SLO" (often pronounced "slow") or "San Luis."

San Luis Obispo has daily one-hour walking tours of the downtown and the Palm Theater is an easy walk from downtown, is solar-powered, and hosts the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival every year.

The Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa is part of Mission Plaza, which incorporates San Luis Creek and a number of stores and restaurants. You can walk from the Mission to the creek and up to one of the restaurants to eat.

There is a lot to do in San Luis Obispo. Go hiking or just enjoy the beautiful cliffs and rocky beachfront areas at Montana de Oro State Park. Mountain bike or hike one of the two most popular hikes at Bishop Peak and Madonna Mountain. Kayak between Shell Beach and Pismo Beach where there are sea caves to explore. There are guided tours of the so-called "Dinosaur Caves" available from several kayak rental shops in Pismo Beach.

San Luis Obispo is home to the first ever motel (The Milestone Mo-Tel).

See the Pink Room and the famous mens bathroom at the Madonna Inn. Just south of downtown SLO, take the Madonna Rd. exit off the 101 and park at the sprawling hotel. Go in the main entrance, take a right, and go down the stairs to get to the mens room.
